For sake of conversation- wanting to tow two rigs...

I would buy that in a heart beat, I have to get the truck first though. I currently have a 16'er that works for my rig, but now that my dad is getting into the sport and it would be nice to tow a few of my buddy's rides too. So I'm starting the window shop phase.

That's basically what Ivan (used to?) have.... diesel Excursion and a Kaufman 32ft tag trailer.

I love that it's now only acceptable to tow two stockish jeeps on nothing less than a 3500 or 4500 dually. Mfers used to use stock blazers and a bumper pull for that shit. That load would be just fine behind a srw 2500, but on the upside if you don't have to daily drive it and you're looking used...I always see duallys cheaper than srw's anyway.

You're the only mfer talking about a 4500. :flipoff2:

If you are newer than '07, you are getting into Tiered Light Duty Diesels.
That means no more 5.9s, or 6.0s (though nobody I know cried about the demise of the 6.0...even though it could be argued that Ford finally fixed it in 07 and then killed it)
I would definitley want a dually to tow 2 rigs...to be honest I'd probably step up to a 450 if it were me.
I'm not the huge fan of manual trannies that most are...
oh yeah I'd avoid 2008 model years.
Obviously I am a Cummins fan boy....but the dodge around it...urhhhghhh
Now the 2010+ Rams seem to be much higher quality.

na...he was the second to mention it, and he speaks the truth

I think Ron was talking about those monoleaf F450s they sold to old men with big campers that didn't know any better. :flipoff2:

Typically Ron doesn't know what the hell he's talking about anyway, so I'll let that one slide. Besides, my money says he was probably the guy towing the 30 footer with mobile home axles behind the k5. :flipoff2:

Either way this reminds me what an expensive hobby this is.

Sure a stock Trailblazer could prolly tow that shit...maybe even a Sportrac....

For me with age comes a lil bit of perspective. It used to be totally norm to party til 3AM, drink way too much, drive away, wake up in some strange place, Be up at 5:30 and headed to work....now that is a BAD IDEA...

Same here.

I tell anybody that asks that you're better off with the dually if you're thinking about hauling anything that big... especially after you consider I spent something like $1600 in tires and air bags and stuff to 'upgrade' a 2500 to comfortably haul the load.

That said, I would like to do an apples to apples comparison with my trailer and a dually vs the 2500 I have now. The air bags made the biggest difference for me just by stiffening up the spring rate and killing any porpoising that I'd get over bridge expansion joints, etc. Every once in a while I'll get a crosswind or something that wiggles the trailer a bit... but I don't think a gooseneck pushes the tow rig around the same way that a 5th wheel can.

I heard that Travis sold his 2500 Chevy and bought a dually Dodge. I meant to track him down at the last race and ask about his impressions, since his trailer is pretty similar to mine.

Hey redlyner i have a 32ft pull behind double car trailer i am going to be selling in a week or two. i have used this for years hauling 2 off road race trucks behind a excursion diesel. i know everyone says gooseneck but that adds weight. I like my pull behind because its lighter than a big gooseneck trailer. I am selling for 3000 bucks. Call or text me for details 864-202-5850 here is a picture of the kind of trailer it is. dont have any pic of trailer on this computer.
I have pulled this trailer with 2 rig, 2 dirt bikes, 2 4 wheelers, and a pit bike plus a ton of gear from SC to King of the Hammers in 09 behind a 04 Diesel Excursion with no problems(some sway with big winds). I currently use a 01 Diesel F250 single wheel and it pulls it awesome with no sway.

I did, no regrets other than the Dodge is so nice, I've been DDing it. Towing, the 2500 was fine with the gooseneck. I used to have a 28' bumper pull and towing with the swb 2500 sucked. The biggest downside to the chevy was the shortbed while towing my trailer, turning was severely limited even with an offset hitch. Since I was buying a new truck, I went drw for the added rear axle capacity. My trailer puts over 6,000 lbs on rear axle, right at capacity on most srw trucks, even a 3500.

I bought an 06 Mega Cab DRW and love it. Pulls like a dream and the 36' Goose was the perfect length. You actually have some room to tie down the 2 rigs without crawling underneath them. Left the goose in MN and now just have my car trailer but still love the truck. Just drove 21 hours pulling my rig and it never skipped a beat, even through 2 panic and swerve stops along the way.

I have been towing with a 2006 5.9 diesel dodge 2500 4x4 short bed crew cab, gooseneck kaufman 26' deck over one jeep 108" wb, other jeep 106" wb so far have put about 40,000 miles with this set up no issues so long as the trailer breaks keep working. even went over the rockies mid jan no problem.

I run a 06 dodge crew cab short bed 4x4 diesel with a 28' gooseneck tows great with two jeeps one 108 wb other stock wb, truck is tagged for 26,000 never had a issue with the law other than speeding.

I tow two rigs, mainly samurai's, bout everywhere with my 95' PSD and 24' gooseneck. Everything pulls smooth as glass and looks bad as hell goin down the road. When trailer shopping keep the deck over neck in mind. It's really nice for extra storage.

Hey if you haven't bought a truck yet you should check out Kernersville Dodge(31Dodge.com). I just got myself an 08 2500 dodge cummins about a month ago, so far I like it. They have a lot of used and new trucks ever time I went there to look around. They have some 2012 Ram 3500 Quad Cab DRW 6 speeds for around 38k. I thought wasn't to bad but was out of my budget.
