maybe someone could help??? I have a 2001 Ford F250 that whenever I start and stop, I hear a pop coming from what sounds like the front drivers side cv joint. I took that side apart and the cv seems to be fine. The unit bearing seems to be fine but I do have some perpendicular play in the axle shaft. Any ideas??? Would the seals going bad cause the popping sound? (it only happens once when i start off or come to a stop)...I have no idea and the money is to tight to take it to a shop so any help will be appreciated.

it does have the auto hubs, and the vac switch did go bad a year or so ago, but ford replaced it...is there anyway to check the ball joints without taking the entire wheel assembly apart???

First have someone rock the wheel back and forth with truck off and on the ground...not enough.to turn the tires but just rock back and forth, watch the balljoints on the side your.having probs with. You can also jqck the front of the truck up and see if you have any play by rocking the tire in and out....simplest explanation i can give

While you're looking at the ball joints and such, check out the sway bar end links. Most common part I sell to cure a popping noise on Super Dutys.

Check the inside needle bearingsinside the unit bearings. Just had the same issue with my excurison and it was this.... my stub shaft was chewed up also....

yall wont believe this but it was accually the brakes. the backing plate was seperating from the brake surface...dont know way but it was happening...if course it missed up the rotor in the process. So a brake and rotor job later, all is well...at least for now! Just thought yall might wanna know.
