Is there enough room in a yj engine bay and underneath for a ford 400 big block, its transmission, and transfer case? Found a nice deal. Was going to go chevy 350 but might change my mind.

I've seen BBC in there, so Im sure it would fit.
The question I have is WHY?!?

The 400M is a marginal boat anchor and sucks for anything else. Its the equivalent of a 366 big block chevy imho.

For the money youd spend to get it in there you could have the sbc in there and have much less weight on the front end.

Even if its free, just think about everytime you need to work on it parts arent plentiful

It'll fit, I came real close to doin that swap, but then we decided to just build the ford truck rather than gut it, I measured with a Jeep that had a 3" body lift.

In stock form the 400 isn't that great, but for about $1500 you can make it scream pretty good, that being said Chevy stuff is alot easier to mess with in about all aspects of the swap including future mods/tuneability thou
