Ford 5 lug flat tops

I'm running into a little problem here at the end of my solid axle swap, and thought this to be the more appropriate place for this question.

The original axle in use was from a '78 Bronco. I ended up buying another housing from a '76 along with flat top knuckles, but keeping all the other outer parts from the '78. Now bolting up all the parts, the caliper will not clear the flat tops in the rear.

Was there a different size caliper mounting bracket for these flat tops?
I know the calipers are the same for the two axles, so this is about all I can conclude as of now. Any help would be appreciated. I'd hate to have to disassemble everything and put the stock non-flat tops back on.

Nevermind. If you run the 3/4 ton knuckles you must run the 3/4 ton brakes, rotor and hub. So I'll either have to acquire some 3/4 ton hubs and sell my 1/2 tons, and trade in my new calipers and rotors for 3/4 ton. Or I'll have to sell the knuckles and stick with the stockers for now.

Well I guess that solves that!!

I don't think you want to use Ford flat-tops for high steer. As I understand it, the 1/2 ton knuckles aren't thick enough in the area that needs to be drilled and tapped for the studs. I'm not sure about the 3/4 ton stuff, but as you've discovered thay are not interchangeable.

(This isnt necessary for me) Is there anyway to get away with keeping all 3/4 ton outer parts and still have 5 lug? I'm having a major brain fart right now. I'm guessing a 1/2 hub wouldn't bolt up to the 3/4 ton stuff?

problems

I may be able to help you,a 78 f-150 extended cab uses 3/4 ton brakes and is still a five lug but they have leaf springs instead of coils. When you go to parts store just tell them extended cab and that will hook you up!

I think what Mud is asking is can you use 1/2 ton outers with 3/4 knuckles. I am wondering this also, from talking to Mud everything bolts up. Everything on his D44 is 1/2 ton but his knuckles, they are 3/4. This is the problem he is running into.

You can see how the 3/4 ton knuckle is covering part of the caliper bracket. Could he get away with using 3/4 ton caliper brackets and calipers and keep everything else the way he has it?
