I am looking into getting a 2000 f250 with the 7.3 what programers are any of you running? I have read a little about some but all say you will get x amount of hp and x amount of mpg gains what ones work and what ones to stay away from is what I looking at. Also what mpg's are any of you getting with what programers?

havent checked mine in a while but the last few times i checked it i was getting 17-19mpg just depending on how and where i drove....on long highway rides i usually get up in the low 20s though....this is with a superchips set on tow performance which i think is supposed to be aroud 75hp or so, but from what all ive heard and talked to some others about the dp tuner is a little better way to go but i got my superchips for free so im not complaining haha

In my 97 I'd say I'd average 17-18. Expect it to bad when you first get the chip, its hard to stay out of it:burnout:

And I'd recommend a DP tuner setup. I'm not sure what to expect on Superduty. My truck is rated a 225 flywheel hp and it dynoed at 225 at the wheels with an intake exhaust and a chip.

thanks for the info this truck will be more of a dd then a tow rig but will tow its fare share too so trying to see what to go with for the best mpg

I had a hypertech and was getting 17. I am buying PowerHungryprogrammer now. They have a lot of tunes that are pretty cheap. Customer service was great when I called them today.

well the one with the 7.3 fell through so cam looking at one with a 6.0 now still go to the same place or somewhere else?

Get an SCT tuner with custom tunes for it, but i wouldn't bother with out doing all 6.0 supporting mods first. headstuds, EGR delete, being the minimum But I'd recommend a coolant filter, a bypass oil filter, and a new oil cooler as-well. I have a 2004 6.0l and its bone stock except for the exhaust but and I haven't had any trouble with it (minus an alternator but you cant blame that on the 6.0). But I wouldn't bother programming it with out the first 2 at least.

As far as an SCT dealer, there's a lot of good ones, just do some research on either dieselstop.com or thedieselgarage.com(seems slow anymore though) I was planning on getting one from elite diesel engineering or something like that but last I heard there customer service became horrible but I here River City diesel is pretty good.

The best thing you could do is get the VIN # and call or go to a ford dealer and have them run an oasis report on it and just see if it has been a problematic truck. Otherwise look for coolant stains in the engine compartment and go for low miles and good service records if you can find it.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy one with 200k on it but th more miles the more problems you'll have with stuff like water pumps alternators and crap like that. My 04 only had 86k on it when I got it and now it has 93K and i have had to replace the alternator. Thats why I say low miles, you'll just have less of a chance of wear parts failing.

Check out Spartan diesel at Spartandieseltech.com These guys are the best I have come across for anything Ford. great customer service and awesome tunes!

I got a 01 Powerstroke setting on 38s and I am running a Power Hungry Performance programmer and run it on the highest level at all time with a afe stage 3 intake and 4" turbo back exhaust and under normal driving I get alil over 20mpg and 18 pulling my race car or trail rig

I also got a power hungry performance chip on my excursion sitting on 38's and I am only getting about 17.1 at its best and then 11.9 towing. Thats doing 75 mph.
