Ford 9 gear oil

I had 80/90 in the rear of my xj with a lockright. was loud and was grabbing during cornering or sharp turns. Swapped to 85-140 and its much quieter and no more grabbing..

I put Walmart brand 85-140 in mine, but I’m cheap and I have a Detroit.
I am with you, walmart brand gear oil.. The supertech filters are very good too. made by wix.

I asked ecgs why they didn't like synthetic. They said the oil ran cooler but the gears didn't. Anyone else have any input on this. I thought synthetic was the $hit.

There's a long ass write some where that backs up what ecgs said. I can't remember the science behind why they run cooler but I know it all came about when Ultra 4 cars started having gear failures when running synthetics. Once they switched back to dino gear oil the failures stopped.

On a side note synthetics are nice but mainly only for the high(er) quality base oil and longer dump intervals.
