I'm new to these axles.. and I was leaking gear oil out the ends like a sieve... coating everything...

Here's what I've determined I have:

1. Big Bearing Ford 9"

2. Ends are: 1/2" bolt holes, 3.5" Horizontal x 2.375" Vertical Spacing. This seems to be "Big Ford Old Style Ends"... However, my ends look like the new style (yet not the same spacing) :shaking: see attached pic for explanation.

3. I appear to have 2-peice wheel adapters to get from 5x5.5 to 6x5.5... Yeah they suck and the hex head bolts are seized into them, but what can you do...

4. It's a Set20 bearing setup

5. Set up w/ Homebrew disc caliper brackets w/ approx. 11" rotors.. I can't tell what calipers they are.

HERE ARE MY ISSUES:

When taking everything apart I can move everything? I started looking and apparently the builder used 3/8" bolts passing through 1/2" holes. I obviously need to replace those...

Next, should I be able to move the bearing horizontally along the shaft (back forth towards end/carrier)? I can approximately 1/4" or so... I plan to install new Set20 kits.

I have (2) backing peices to install... they are approximately 1/8" thick and look like the ends?

I need to know the order I need to put everything back together again.. anyone have a pic or a diagram?

Basically my axle is setup like this: Rotor-seal-bearing-retainer coller (3/4" thick peice)... What are the (2) packing peices used for... is it just to space out the caliper bracket or something?

Damn, that's confusing sorry.. any help/info would be greatly appreciated...

in stock formation the backing plate went between the bearing retainer and the axle flange to provide proper preload... also, i do no think the bearing should be able to slide on the shaft, they are a press fit...
