looking to buy another Ford 9" rear axle, the guy says that it is out of a 1975 F-100, with 2.73 gears in it. Was wondering if this is a 31 spline big boring 9"??? if you had the chance to buy the would you??

man i have just been going thru this whole process for my new rear. to ans your question it could be, but most likely will be the early style big bearing. poss only 28 spline. see if you can get a bom # from a tag and use this link to check:

the '78-'80 bronco's and f-150's are your best bet for the strong housings and big bearings but they were used in other year's and models as well.

its not showing a 75 f 100 on that list for some reason, i dont know if he is just trying to take my money and sell me a shitty axle or what. bet he well not have the #tag on the axle.

thanks jeepman13 for your help tho

click on the different #'s in the index @ the bottom for different years. a '75 f-100 is in there.

i'm sure there are lot's of 9" experts on this forum with better info. if you do find a good one that is 65" wms you can shorten it to around 60" wms by cutting the drvrs side down and using a 31 spline lh early bronco shaft. jeff's bronco graveyard sells 'em for about $160
