Ford Engine Hesitanting

cleaning mass air flow sensors is really a thing of the past, it doesn't work well anymore because it does so much more than they used to do.
it very well could be the maf, what kind of air filter is he running on it, if it's a k&n style start with throwing it in the trash.

It is a k&n, I will pass it along

Yea, K&Ns are commonly known to trash MAF sensors due to the oil on the elements getting sucked in and hitting the MAF and fouling it, the fact that they are really not that great at filtering anyway and let dust particles through caking onto that oil does not help as well.

k&n is junk

i know this may start a war but i will stand my ground on this,go back to the oem one and be done with it.
he will still probably need to replace the maf but running the oem will save him from having to do it again.

it would be ok if it was only a maf, but it is also air intake temp, the oil from the k&n gets on the sensor and changes the readings on it. since ford doesn't use a barometric pressure sensor, they use a "learned value" instead, intake air temp is used to create that value.

it's like driving a car from the coast with values reading like they are at 10,000 feet above sea level
