Ford Explorer

02 explorer. body seams leak water, I've put 2 four wheel drive modules, ign switch, replace seals in rear diff, replaced rear wheel bearings, reprogramed to ecu 4 times for hard shifting into reverse(dealership bandaid). But other than spending half of what I spent on it to begin with I like it. I wish I had gooten a Yukon though. Moms got one with a v8 and gets better milage than I do and it still has vaule were mine is worth alot less.

if your getting an explorer, get one with a 2.9 or 4.0. early 90 ish.

just buy something already..damn...

by the time you buy something its going to be too cold to tow your boat to the lake

I agree this is getting ridiculous.. as my Grandma says, "piss or get off the pot". You seem to have a new thread daily about a freaking vehicle... :shaking:

About Exploders, we have a 1998 Exploder Eddie Bauer and it's been a great vehicle. We bought it new and have maintained it.. I think that's 1/2 the battle is who/how a vehicle's been maintained.. The only issues we've had is the radio quit working, and one of the blend doors on the climate controled AC got hung open.... Other than that it's been great and has around 150k on it (4.0, Auto).

Can't fail with an early 70's to early 80's Ford, GM, or Dodge truck.

I would think as long as it can pull the boat, stop the boat, and keep you from getting hypothermia during the winter, it's really doing what it's supposed to. Everything else is icing on the cake.

Guys...I would...I've had at least 5 even swaps that have fell through over something or another...

I am, however wondering...however...if you're sick of it, why do you have to post in the thread...do you enjoy that I have no cash to BUY something or do you like to remind me that my even swaps keep falling through. Obviously I am entertaining because you read all my threads...and comment...

a friend of mine has a 96 v8 awd with 200k on it with no real problems, expect to change the ball joints i have seen a ton go bad.

just kidding....

ha ha ha.. wow! Andrew, stay away from Exploders man.. That is the one 4x4 i really cant stand. they suck! The push button 4x4 is garbage, they break down consistantly and i think they are just poorly made to speed up mass production. For instance, my friend had a 96 Limited.. Sucked.. drank gas and constantly overheated or didnt start. My sister is on her 3rd Explorer (for some odd reason) and lets see, she just got it, with 80k miles on it, V6 auto 4x4 limited Ed. Its a NY vehicle.. The auto trans is slipping. Her last explorer got stolen, but it was junk too. And she had a 2wd 2dr at one point, it wasnt too bad and she IS a female so she didnt take too much care of em, but hell, you would have to make love to those trucks to get them to run properly. Too much TLC for me.

So out of all the Manufacturers you have asked about. What are you leaning towards? Jeep, Nissan, Ford?

This boat you have, do you have pics of it? I dont even really think you will need a 4x4 for a 14' aluminum boat. (14 ft right?).

Y2K, thats why i suggested staying with the EARLY 90-92 exploders. Dana 35 ttb front 8.8 rear 4.0 engine. All stout stuff (by small SUV standards). Plenty of aftermarket support and plenty of room to grow hardcore.

Andrew...you didnt by any chance by that boat from Donnie Baker did you?

I'd stay away from an exploder if you're going to work it at all. They may be JUST OK for normal driving, but you'll kill it quick pulling anything with it. Have you looked at the third gen 4 runner? '96 is the first year and they had the 3.4 liter. It was still under the head gasket recall but Toyota was warantying everything past 100k. I've got a '97 that has bee rolled and had the shit beat out of it but it still pulled a loaded U-haul trailer (3-4k lbs) 70+ MPH without any problems. I DD it and it gets 20-21 MPG on the highway. Got like 17 or so pulling said trailer.
