Need help on a f150 susp..Im torn on leaf or coil though..

Truck in question is a 89 F150 2wd std cab/ long bed.

Plans are sas and 4wd conv..

I want to stay with a D44 as it will not see heavy abuse or bigger than a 35-37" tire..

What swap is prefered/simplier/more effective...Leafs or coil...

Opinions?

use coils and radius arms, its what you truck is already set up for so minimal fab and minimal down time.

X2. You can put the coils in the same frame buckets you've got now, just fab up or modify the 79 truck frame brackets to mount the radius arms, make a track bar bracket, and get the steering set up and run it.

Check out fullsizebronco.com if you want some more info. They have a huge SAS section with lots of info.

Two problems with leaves. Pre-80 axles have the spring perches tighter together, so you have to either add new perches outboard (gets into tire/turning radius issues), or build a crossmember up front and some inboard perches in the back. Then you've got to figure out what springs to run.... fewer choices and flexibility here, for sure.

There's an entire section on leaf SAS if you go that route. If your rig is going to see a decent amount of time on the road, I'd go with the coil setup as it's much more well mannered. Both are very capable on the trail when done right.
