Hey all!

My valiant 4.9L six-powered truck is about to shuffle off this mortal coil, and I'm looking at buying a replacement in the coming weeks. I need more towing ability out of my next rig, so I'm looking at gas-powered F-250s and 350s, either with the 5.4L or 6.2L.

For vehicles that are under 150K miles or so, what's typically a fair market value in NC? I'm considering an '08 F-250, 5.4, with 120K, but I'm wondering if $15K cash is considered too much of a lowball. Hearing what others have paid would help for figuring out a negotiating range :)

Thanks, and hope to meet you guys off the asphalt soon... :bounce:

Only if they say no,you can always go up.I see this turnin into another gas versus diesel debate, good luck.

Before buying a 5.4 ask if the cam phasers have been replaced. If not run or buy cheap. If so ask for receipts. Honestly 15k sounds high for a 6 year old gas truck, especially a 250 with the 5.4. I'd go 6.2 or 6.8 V10(still had phaser issues but lots of power) before the 5.4.

^^^ this!

I don't want to turn it in to a gas vs diesel debate, but since the only requirement you mentioned was towing, you should be able to find a decent variety of 01-07ish diesel trucks in that price range that would tow better than an 08 5.4 gasser and deliver better fuel economy loaded and unloaded. If you're not afraid of a little more miles, you can find 08-10 Ford 6.4's in that price range too, the power is fantastic and they will tow like a champ, but the fuel mileage on the 6.4 isn't as good.

If you could find an older 250 or 350 with the 7.3 I would jump all over that, there's one on the farm still running strong at over 300k

I'll answer directly.
$15k is too much for an 08 gasser with 120k, imho.

You can buy a 2015 2WD gasser XLT 4 door for $30k
4wd for $34

Used Ford F-250 for sale Charlotte

I've seen 07-8 diesels go for $15k recently...

We just got rid of a 09 36k and engine was sitting on table at dealership.
