So I've had this thing sitting around waiting for me to build it but waiting on the cash flow to allow me some extra to buy the parts I need. In the mean time I'm wanting to do some fab work.. Knuckle/inner C reinforcement, truss, and any other pointers or suggesting you guys/veterans are willing to share with me. Info? Pics? Build threads?
It may just be a 78/79 thing, but I've seen several that were built with 1-2* of positive camber....mine has 1.5 degrees. I'm thinking it's the knuckles themselves. I know the tubes are straight and nothing is bent. So hopefully swapping on a set of aftermarket knuckles will straighten it out. Pun definitely intended
If it's got a 1330 Ford yoke, you'll probably want to ditch that for a more common size u-joint. Oh, and depending on what year it is, the calipers may sort of bounce around in the brackets, even with new hardware and everything. The GM/Dodge caliper mounting was definitely better, but the big ass dual piston Ford calipers make up for it! Other than that, it's just a Dana 60. Gear it, rebuild it, maybe weld on some beef and let it roll...so to speak.
I've never had a problem getting a kingpin out, others have a nightmarish experience. I always use a 7/8" allen wrench with a 3' jack handle for leverage and a ball peen hammer to tap on the knuckle to make the kingpin pop loose. Worked like a charm on the 60s that I've built.
