I'm looking to perform a 302 swap for my ranger, I figured the easiest was to do this was buy a wrecked explorer or truck and swap everything over. With that being said I figured I would go with the 5.0 explorer then I'd get the perks of the gt 40 heads and fuel injection, then I found out 5.0 explorers seem to be awd. But a v6 explorer had 4x4 so one question, will the v6 transfer case work with the 5.0, if so I believe that'd be my ticket, if not maybe look at going with a carb and seeing if a can buy a bronco or truck and possibly getting a straight axle set-up too. What's y'all input, and other option I might have? Thanks!

I would NOT go with a carb. Definitely keep the EFI. I swapped a 5.0 out of a 92 Mustang into my truck. I did the wiring harness myself by using schematics I found on the internet.

If the transfer case won't bolt up to the 302 trans couldn't you gt a 2wd explorer 5.0 trans and get whichever tcase you want? That way you can find a ujoint that'll fit both flanges or make a really small droveshaft that connects the two

No the v6 case will not bolt to the v8 transmission. Your best bet is a 4406 transfer case and shifter from a f150. Bolts right up to the v8 explorer transmission and the shifter boot and bezel match the contour of the transmission tunnel in the RBV's. It also fits inside the frame rails unlike a BW1356 or NP208 from an 80's-90's full size truck. You will also need a front drive shaft from the same truck the case comes from as well as a rear shaft to have cut down to make it short enough to fir the smaller wheel base. Do a google search for "Borg warner 4406 swap" and check out the links to write ups on various RBV forums that have been done.
