Wifes 06 Escape 4 cyl. TB butterfly is hanging closed and pops open, not smoothly I cleaned the butterfly and bore but it was'nt very dirty. Could the position sensor be what's hangin up?? there is no play in the linkage side of the shaft that holds the B-fly. 75k mi.

It is cable actuated. 1 from the footfeed and another to a computer it looks like. I hav'nt disconeccted the cables to see if the problem is there. It rotates smoothly after opening a fraction, but it hangs shut, and pops loose as it starts to open. I drove it last night to get a pizza and the peddle felt like it would not move a few times. The bore is plastic and the butterflys shaft is tight and smooth twisting after it's opened.

is it cable operated or electronic throttle body.
i highly doubt the tps is the cause of it.

You were right, I sprayed some teflon lub. on the linkage side rotating shaft when I cleaned the bore earlier. Even so it was still hanging from under the hood rotateing it w my hand. The wife came home and said it was fine now so I guess the lub. finally got in there. I tried it and the peddle feels much better now. thanks again transman.

call your local ford dealer, i think there is a recall for that, not completely sure but i think it has something to do with the cruise control cable if applicable.
