Ford Trans Question

My neighbor has an '07 Lincoln Mark 5 truck. He is having trans issues, te code says a solenoid is bad. Two trans shops say it needs torque converter at @$1500-1900. It's a 4 spd trans. Is this a one-off trans with lots of electronics that make it so expensive since it's in the Lincoln? I figured it would be run of the mill Ford unit.

Help to know the code #. I'm going to guess it's p0740 or p0741. (No lock up, or lock up performance if my memory serves me) if that's the case then it may well need a TC.

Is that $1500-1900 just for the TC or does that include labor? If labor is included, that's not terrible. What code is it actually throwing? I'm not overly familiar with that trans, but I do know that time frame is pretty intensive with the electronics, and most of them are internal to the case, so you either spend hours blindly fishing for plugs or spend hours dropping a trans.

No, it can be checked if it's electrical without pulling trans. Solenoid would only involve dropping the pan, assuming it's a rwd. TC would of course require removal. A good scan tool will be able to help determine if it's wiring or mechanical/hydraulic fault.

Ok so two "reputable" trans shops has said that its probably torque converter and shot a price, one at $1500 and one at $1900.
I guess that's good enough Thanks for the replies!
