Forest & Logging Roads

Getting back in the 4x4 world again after many years away. My wife and I would love to meet up with some people and explore some fun easy dirt forest & logging roads. I don't really know where any are at though! If I was back in Michigan, it would be easy. You head North. Old NC105 at Linville Falls area is one nice drive with great views.

Stay off private property and powerline trails unless you have WRITTEN permission! Check out the where to go 4wheeling thread at the top of the general chit chat page.

If you are wanting to stay in the Morganton area, there are a lot of fire service roads you can hit. 105 is probably one of my favorites you might still be able to catch the leaves if you get up there soon, but the views are awesome.

Anywhere in NC or VA. Based inGreensboro. Just looking for dirt roads to explore. Don't have to be true off road trails.

Those trails are closed except to land owners.

There must be some gravel roads in the national forests shouldn't there? Are all the roads paved?

It's been many years, but in Michigan the state forests have lots of "seasonal" roads that are 1-2 lanes, mostly 2 track. You could get a modern AWD crossover down them but I really miss driving slow in the woods and seeing Deer and other animals.

No, the roads in UNF are not all paved, most are gravel. You also have a PM.

Tons of legal forest service roads in the pisgah nation forest. NC 90 I think? Perfectly legal and go for miles and miles. Got lost out there at 2am one morning with a dying alternator.

H3.

That said, there are tons of gravel roads around Table Rock, NC 90, NC 105. All are in Pisgah.

you need to check out wilsons creek in Caldwell County and then Richlands Rd. Both are great places to do some good gravel road riding and then Richlands Rd. is some good trail riding with some rocks and hill climbs when your ready to hit something harder than gravel road riding!!:driver:

I'll be ready for URE soon. Have to get a 2nd set of dedicated off-road tires and re-stock my old 4 wheeling box that I used to carry with tools, parts, recovery stuff, etc. Been out of the game for over 10+ years. With kids grown up, it's time for the wife and I to have OUR fun.
