a buddy of mine is building a flat bed and hopes to do the 63"s later and was questioning about the frame cut off. so how far can the frame be cut and still weld on the new 63" rear hanger? I understand that it needs to be 4" eye to eye, but how far past the 4 inches should i cut the frame. hope this makes sense. a buddy of mine is building a flat bed and hopes to do the 63"s later and was questioning about the frame cut off.

Dont cut any frame off. Get a piece of 2x3x3/16 tube and weld it in at the back of the frame as a crossmember/bumper. You would only be able to cut off about 1" of frame to be able to still put the shakle hanger on, so its not really worth it.

^^ I don't quite understand that.
Is that "extension" on the stock shackle welded to it? Or can it pivot like a 2nd shackle? That would be crazy dangerous.

Look at me I can read:

They are just two shackles. I boxed the chevy shackle in to make it stronger. Have been running it this way for a year now and TRIED to make it break and couldn't. So far have not seen any adverse effects.
The truck frame is cut off just behind the toyota shackle hanger by the previous owner. When I wanted to do the chevy spring swap, there was nowhere for the top of the chevy shackle to rest but on the bottom of the bumper mount. If I had a stock length truck, I would still shorten the rear overhang and bob the bed, but I'd leave it long enough for there to be some frame for the top of the chevy shackle to rest on...say 4" or so.
