Send me a address or some directions. What kinda work will you be doing(how far along are you) will I need any tools?

Might be able to throw in a hand. I will not know until a little closer. I am just up the road from you.

Cool, let me know if you can make it!
I still don't know anyone around Lexington, I haven't been here too long.

Aught to take a break for a lil while and come out the event, its all going to a good cause!

I'm on too short of a time frame to spend a weekend day not building. I need to give this my all if I want to be done for the 3/20 race. Good luck with your event though, It should draw a nice crowd.

Still have some tube work to do. Most of it will be straight pieces with notches on the end. Some complex notches at nodes. working on getting the rear axle brackets welded on this weekend, working on the front link crossmember and any number of smaller metal fab jobs. someone can also start cutting the panels to patch the holes in the floor. Also need to finish plating the frame rails.

As far as tools, grinder may be helpful, I have consumables to share. Other than that, Im not too sure.

Hell yeah, I do. Maybe that will motivate me to finally move my air compressor from my parents house in salisbury to mine.

Is is 110v or 220v?

Either. It's a Miller 375 and it runs on 110 or 220. I've always used it on 110 and it will clean cut 1/4 with ease. On 220 power it will clean cut 3/8 and will sever cut up to 5/8. I've got the 110 plug on it now.

I've got the rear truss cut (thanks to work's CNC plaz), and will be bringing some more metal stock.

I will sponsor a couple pizzas for lunch on sat, 3/20.

What are you plating the frame rails with and how are you cutting it? Do I need to bring a welding helmet what are you welding with stick or mig.

I will be plating then with 3.5"x1/4" angle iron. As far as cutting, i mostly use a chop saw, angle grinders, or a portaband. If you're gonna hang out for a while you can bring a helmet of your own, but I have a couple around here. I use stick and mig at my house, but on those thin frame rails, definitely will be using MIG.

When you say plating you are talking about adding a cover to turn the frame into a tube instead of the factory c channel. Right? Or are you adding support to the back side to make it stronger.

It's a piece of structural angle welded to the outside of the "framerail".

Oh yeah, sorry, it is a unibody jeep. so plating over the sheetmetal frame. (the jeep is much much further along since that pic was taken)

Looks more like this now.

I don't really like the looks of how tall the cage is, but it only has 3" of clearance above my helmet. I'm too tall for all this stuff. Crawling in and out of that old cage made me realize i had to make it easier to get in and out this time, not to mention my crappy leg. I will add a slightly higher door bar after the interior is finished.

Cool looking build. What are you going to use for the running gears?

FYI, the tire in the back is a counterbalance weight
 I had to play that role once, sat in the engine bay of my buddies Vette when we lifted the body off the engine/suspension/K-member and it started to rock backwards off the lift.

Adam, good luck with the build. I need to get out there one day and check it out, haven't seen ya in forever, but this weekend would definitely be a no-go with all this work for senior design.

Thanks. Will be running a HP60 front and a 14 bolt full floater rear with discs.

Without that tire in there, I can pick up the back end of the rig with one finger.

shoot me a PM, I'm curious what they have you doing for senior design. Feel free to hit me up if you're ever passing through Lexington on a weekend.

Not gonna be able to make it. I was really lookin forward to meetin up with some of yall. And tryin to help out with the build.

But one of the labs just dropped a litter of puppies, so I will be busy keepin up with them.

Sorry, and good luck

Not gonna make it either. I started a lift on a truck today and things didn't go according to plan, so I will be finishing it up tomorrow. Maybe next go around.

If I can get done early enough, I might still shoot out there. pm me an address and number just in case.
