free DVD ripper??

I'm not wanting to steal movies. I have a few DVDs that people have made of wheeling trips and I want to cut them down to use in a project of mine. anyone know of a good free ripper I can use for something simple like that? thanks.

edit: I see winxdvd is a free program that says no spam and crap. any experience with this?

DVD Fab worked good for the pc.

It'll rip portions (ie, no special features, no previews, etc) and also resize the movie to fit 4.7gb DVD-Rs.
