Free (like beer) MPG Editor?

Anyone using a free or close to it MPG/movie editor?

I have several vids my brother shot at VA4WDA Annual and they are freakin HUGE! I'd love to "skinny" them down a few hundred megs each and cut the dead weight (failed/long obstacle attempts) and put out for consumption, but they quickly exceed my ability to host and the avg. lookers ability to download them quickly...
