A buddy of mine bought a wrecked 02 PSD w the 7.3 and he called tonight to tell me it had a superchips tuner under the seat and I could borrow it if I wanted to.He said it wasnt vin locked because he has used it on his sons 01.

I am wanting a dp tuner, but after paying for the truck and buying a new(to us) camper I'm short on funds. The SC tuner has a tow settin which is what Im wanting.I have been reading up on the chips and tuners and if I read it right the SC tuners and chips are harder on the trans than a multi position tuner like a DP or Tony Wildman unit. What everybodys thoughts on this??? A free tune sounds good but not at the expense of a 3-4K $$$ trans.

I have been running a SC tuner in my 02 7.3 since 02. No problems. Mostly in tow mode. On mine, you can only program one truck at a time though.

Thats what I thought also, but he says he's done his sons truck also.I looked at his truck right after he bought it and it has a jake brake,gauges,5 inch exh and some kind of adj tuner cause I saw the knob on the dash so I dont it it was used for diagnostics or it if was just left over after the other tuner was installed.
Sell it on ebay and get a DP or any type of custom tune. :huggy:
It's a loaner or I would.

Yeah I don't know about it being harder on the trans or not but I've never heard of a tuner that will let you install on multiple vehicles without uninstalling first.
Im thinkin it might have been uninstalled in his truck and when he put it in his sons truck it will be the only truck it can be used on until its taken out.

I had an Edge Evo for my 97 and got adjustable chip but keep the edge around to read codes so that's probably the case. And yeah you can definitely only program one truck at a time so he will have to set is sons truck back to stock if you want it.

As far as PSD tuners go I'm pretty sure the SC is bottom of the list. I don't know much about them other than a general rule is most hand held programmers like that just jack up the line pressure and change shift points a bit. I like the way my evo felt trans wise but I also added a small shift kit as well to firm up the shifts but I'm pretty sure it fried my PCM so since then Ive stayed away from flash tuners.

Yeah I thought I would,at the very least, check for any codes on mine w it.
