Uwharrie Friday October 2nd Run Pictures/Videos

Had an interesting run today. Myself and a gray Cherokee went out for some Friday morning wheeling fun. First stop was Falls Dam, on the way out we stopped to see the Cherokee try the soup bowl. He and I both have made it through multiple times over the past years but there is always a first time for everything:

He didn't get stuck, he died out. And ended up sucking a bunch of water ALMOST into his engine. The air filter got damp, but he was very lucky. We tried to pull him out from the front to avoid getting my truck in the water with the short strap, ended up doing Swamper burn outs trying to pull him out. My 2.6L 4 banger didn't have enough power to pull him all the way out but we did make progress.

We were about to get 2 straps hooked together from behind to pull him when a group of guys from VA showed up. They had a Bronco, J10 picukup, 2 TJs, and a Taco. He got out in the water for no reason essentially, the J10 pulled him out with minimal problems:

The fairly new 33x10.5 BFG A/Ts were racing slicks by then of course. We took out the wet air filter and started trying to turn it over. His tail pipe turned into a water jet/sprayer. Every turn of the key shot out more water out of the exhaust. I would say about 10 or so attempts at starting it got the water out and the Jeep fired right up. He had a couple of inches of water in the Jeep, and you could see a little waterfall coming out the back gate (I have videos of it that will be up later). He also has a loose tail light from the pull out, duck tape fixed that.

Then the J10 went down into it and got water in the distributor:

The group parked and watched the fun.

They got the J10 running again and he drove out. Then he decided to try going up it. And again got water in the distributor, this time he was pulled out backwards by the Bronco.

The Taco decided to take a stab at it, he went down it fine then tried to come up it. With a Dual Marlin t-case setup, locked front and rear, and MTRs we thought he would make it. He came real close (video to come), but ended up having to back out. The Taco muddy after his attempt:

We were heading out Falls Dam as they were heading in so we went and cut across Slab Pile to the bottom part of Rocky Mnt Loop (keeping straight instead of making a right to go up to Kodak). The more worn front 34x9.5 TSLs even got a little gummed up doing some 3 wheeling in the rutted out section. Nothing spectacular but if anyone knows this spot going from the other direction its nothing. But I found out going down it, it feels like if you gas it out of the rut you will flop to the left. Didn't flop but did get some pictures.

Knowing the Virginia (VA) group was probably almost done with Falls Dam (and on Channel 4) we decided to try to re-group with them. We cut out to the road and went down to the start of Dickey Bell where Falls Dam came out to meet back up with them. We went up the easy ledge after the stream crossing and waited for them to catch up after radioing them on the CB. The Bronco got his front drivers side WAY up in the air on the hill climb, I snapped a shot it coming back down:

After we finished Dickey Bell people were hungry so we decided cut back early for lunch, back to Arrowhead we went. We had been wheeling since 9am so the Jeep Cherokee decided to head out. Ends up one of the BFG A/Ts got a cut in the sidewall and started leaking, and they had to get an air filter etc anyway so they had to head out anyway. And then the VA guys had some repairs to do (bolt needed for the TJ) so they were going to be hanging around for a while. I finally noticed it was later than I thought so I headed out too. Last shot of the day, aired up at the outpost and ready to go home:

I have a good bit of video from the day, and when I get a chance to splice it all together and put it on you tube I will update with a link. Thanks to VA group of guys for pulling the Jeep Cherokee out and being a cool bunch to wheel with. Was their first time out, and hope they had fun on Rocky Mnt Loop later after we left and Daniel tomorrow. Just goes to show you never know who you may run into on the trails.

as I was draining a buddies air box and intake tube of water out of that same spot. A guy came up and shared his story about your time in the mud. nice pics.

Glad most have enjoyed the narrative, I think it helps. I mean pictures are cool, but having a little bit of back story to go with goes a long way.

@Brandon I don't think we saw you either. A little after 9am we started on Falls Dam, cut across Slab Pile then across the bottom of RML, and then to Dickey Bell. So if you weren't on those trails in the fairly early morning that would explain it. I wanted to hit the rest of RML, but after the big "event" with the Cherokee we didn't have time.

@Countryboy, if they guy was on a dirt bike then I know who you are talking about. He came across us when I was trying to pull the Cherokee back out, and then again as we were exiting Dickey Bell later that day.

Movie combined with pictures will be up sooner than later hopefully.

Yea, That pit was pretty deep in that area this visit. I've got some videos of some guys we were with going down that slope. The water splashed right up their windshields over their roofs. One of them had the doors off of their Cherokee and ended up with at least 5 gallons of water inside LOL

hey draider, thanks for the trail guiding. sorry you guys had to split. btw we never left camp after the break on friday but had a blast on sat.
