Friggin' ticks

Man that sucks, glad they caught it early though. Did you actually see the tick that gave it to you (ie. have you pulled a tick off you)?

I had lymes 5-6 years back. Doc caught it early... had the classic bulls eye 1-2 weeks after the bite. Took 2 weeks of meds, fine since.. Make sure you run the full course of meds. (I'm sure doc said to)

I was really scared about it but after a lot of reading, its just a virus the same as a cold virus etc and if left untreated can take hold in odd places in your body...

On a side note, I found it strange the doc did NOT put any notations in his paper work about it actually 'being' lymes saying the cost to test specifically for it were very high and if symptomes present they just treat for it, ( basic 2 weeks antibiotics). How I heard or interpreted it was, "In wake county we have very few cases of Lymes disease reported" BS !

2 cases my ass.....

Doc said the same thing to me, didn't test, I just had the classic symptoms so they treated it.

The funny thing was that my mother-in-law was really sick a few weeks back and the doctor told her it couldn't be lymes because "it doesn't come this far south."

A week later, I get it from a tick bite I got while in her yard.

This is a classic fallacy from Drs and something that drives epidemiologists crazy.
They are reluctant to diagnose a problem b/c they believe it to be rare, so they call it something else. So, b/c it continues to go undiagnosed, it continues to be "rare".

That's horse shit. I got it one year from a tick bite in Georgia.

I've had "tick borne illnesses" (aka maybe Lyme) several times. Doxycycline for two weeks, good as new. Well, except for the one time they only put me on it for a week and symptoms recurred.

Doxycycline makes you sensitive to the sun, so be glad you got it now rather than later in the summer. Also turns my stomach, so make sure to eat plenty before downing that horse pill.

Rocky mnt. spotted fever

I was in Hot springs last year...in the mountains....and a damn cat was hanging out at our cabin.....day or so later, my father in law has a terrible spot on his arm that looks like poison ivy.
He gets back to South Africa where he lives and his doctor takes one look and says... You have rocky mountain spotted fever! Treated it and he is fine now. Pretty sure the cat had a tick and it got onto him when he was handling it.

Guys, I use dog and cat flea and tick shampoo on my whole body(there's a visual) after being in the woods. Havent found a tick on me in years.

Damn right

LOL!!!^^

The ticks are real bad this year! At least on our property near Fuquay. Usually we have the big Lonestar ticks but this year we have a bunch of tiny seed ticks too. My wife has been bitten several times this season. Only once for me, since I had Rocky mountain spotted fever two summers ago I bathe in Deet any time I'm headed out doors.

Just picked up some stuff from the gunstore that is supposed to be a tick killer as well as repellent. Has Pirithrum (sp) in it. We'll be testing it out this weekend working in the garden. They seem to be really active there for some reason.

Just got home from being back at Uwharrie today. One of the bites from Monday is redder and really itching! Keep and eye on it or have it looked at? The other one is about gone. Hope I didn't pick up any extras today!

ok, whats in a flea and tick collar and why cant you wear one on your boots?

I think it has to be a positive diagnosis in order be reported as Lyme. And it's tough to get a positive diagnosis. Most times, if you have the 'typical' symptoms (flu-like, rash, etc) within a couple of weeks of the bite, you still won't test positive.

That's what I've been told, anyway. They said I could have any of a dozen different tick-borne illnesses, or any combination of those, so its better to just put you on antibiotics and see if your symptoms improve, rather than wait for a specific diagnosis.

My wife got Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever a few years ago. Every so often she gets real tired from recurrence of it. We live in the woods so ticks are pretty common. We just check every night in the normal places they like to hide.

I found a tick on me today when I went to get my new chickens. I got it off before it could bite me but ever since I've felt like they are crawling all over me. Now ya'll have me paranoid.
