I am converting my vacuum actuated front axle disconnect to a cable actuated disconnect (built by me). Lying in the axle tube where the two shafts meet is what’s left of some sort of o-ring or maybe a seal, probably about 1/8" thick. Any idea what this is from? Is there some sort of o-ring on the shift collar itself? I thought I would ask before I pull axleshafts to investigate. I have no idea how long it has been there.

There is a seal in the passengers side of the axle disconnect housing probably should be replaced not an easy thing to do do because of the way it is put in there. I had the same problem when I converted my YJ to cable connect.

If I find a 1 piece axle for free, I'll do that. Otherwise, I don't have much money into converting over to cable actuation.
