been tryin to get this 4runner together for way too long now. 88 runner with 3.0 and an auto tranny. i sas'ed it and immediately ran into a front shaft issue trying to make flanges fit, finally got two ends that work using my old tranny end and a taco front flange, and discarding the double cardan junk. issue is that i dont have enough bend in the upper joint. i stuck a small shim from advance in it, not enough. theres not enough metal to grind anything out. aside from cutting eveeything off the axle and welding on new mounts, any yoter guys run into this?

Sounds like you have a really low pinion angle. A single cardan shaft should have more than enough angle. If it is maxing out its travel at ride height its going to get worse when it flexes.

How about some pictures or details of what you used

I'd clearance both ends to allow the u-joint to flex a little more. What's your pinion angle?

What size joint is it? If it's 1310 you could put a Tom Woods super flex joint it in. They can supposed vibe pretty bad at any kind of highway speed though.

Must be a 88 4runner thing.......mine was the same way with the flanges, but my driveshaft doesn't bind. i used regular pattern joints from a junk pickup and redrilled the flange on the tcase to work with the new joint.

edit: just saw you've got a 6" lift..mines only 4". ^^^that might still bind, but not as bad.

I didn't really think about this but if your still rockin a single case then that can be part of the problem along with the 6 inch's of lift.

6" and a single case won't we work no way no how. With tg 4" springs and a single case my shaft even with the tools clearanced would bind up at FL droop. Also might want to make sure your driveshft is phased correctly because i have seen a lot of people run the homes parallel trying to prevent binding. It only causes more problems

Im sas'ing a 90 runner 3.0 auto. With stock ruf the drive shaft wont reach the flange. The guy im doing this for is getting the parts together for a 5spd double case swap. The problem I saw was the frt tcase flange points up at a pretty good angle. You could try to lift the tcase mount some but thats just gonna make the rear worse.
