Frontier throwing code - transmission range sensor

My 02 frontier 6 cyl has been puking coolant for 3 days. I finally traced the leak to a bypass hose under the distributor at the front of the intake. I changed the hose last night and fixed the leak. Two minutes into my test drive the check engine light came on. I took it to advance this morning and they scanned it, code p0705- transmission range sensor. I had them clear it and as soon as I pulled out of the parking lot the light came back on.
I have no idea what a transmission range sensor is, how to go about fixing it, or what I did to cause this problem. Any help is greatly appreciated!

P0705

that code appears to be the park neutral switch on the side of the trans, check for moisture @ the connection and for any connector damage, if none u most likely have a bad range sensor

That's a good possibility! The coolant was pouring down the bell housing on the trans and might have gotten it wet! I'll check it out tonight.
Should I spray some wd 40 in it or just dry it?

I can not located the range sensor. I have spoken to service managers at two Nissan dealerships and neither of them has ever heard of a tran range sensor.

The range sensor is most likely inside the trans. Look at your vin tag inside the door and in the lower right corner, it will give you the trans type. If it is a re5ro5a you have other issues.
Late model Nissan's all have bad radiators, the coolers rupture and let coolant into the trans.the tcm is built into the valve body, the range sensor is part of the tcm.

I pulled this off a plug and it goes in the tranny on top of the bell housing where the coolant was leaking. Can anyone tell me what it is?

Input speed sensor, I am not at work so I can't give you what really needs to be checked. I can tell you that if it's an re4 , the range sensor is on the passenger side, where the linkage goes in to the trans. It's behind the linkage arm, held on with 3, 8mm bolts. The wire harness runs up the dipstick,it goes all the way up to the inner fenderwell/firewall.

Thanks! I just returned the range sensor because I thought it was located inside the transmission. I will go back and get it tomorrow and change it because I have got to get this problem fixed before my 1 hr commute Monday. After doing research it seems that the trans range sensor is the same thing as the neutral safety switch, is that right?

The passenger side of the trans is difficult to get to.
I just have to remove the 3 bolts, and the 2 plugs which are inside the fender at the trans fluid dipstick? Does the shift cable attach to the range sensor?
Thanks!!!

Is this it?

I've got the 3 8mm bolts off and the sensor is loose, but I can't get it off. I can't figure out how to separate it from the linkage arm because of the pin that is inside the black arm on the sensor.

That is the crank position sensor. It is a hall effect sensor that reads the crank position from the flywheel/flexplate. Only needed for ODBII diagnostics, will not cause driveability issues but will light the MIL if it fails. If you ever pull the transmission remove this first!

Glad you got the problem figured out.
