Looking to get some thoughts on a build up.

Im looking into building a DD-tow rig set up

I have a 89 wagoneer that ill be starting a build on. Im wanting it to be a DD- hauler for my rig

Droping in a diesel is out of the question as that will be a pretty big drop of $$$ and i have one already for heavy loads. I want a gas motor that i can use to drive around in but also have some power to tow.

It will be getting a small lift and 33's. I will also be staying with the D44's (another reason i dont want a diesel)

Im looking at the 6.0. I love the 5.3 but i want the little extra ummhh of the 6.0.. I recently test drove a Burb with the 8.1 and really didnt see much diff in the 6.0/8.1 other than the gas gauge moved more on the 8.1!

So my ? is.......Tell me what motor you would drop in and for what reason. As of right now im looking into the 6.0 gas.

hmmm, i would keep the 360 with a few treats...

see:

takes the 360 to about a 424 or so...

if i HAD to do a swap i would be doing a small block mopar swap, 360. And if i HAD to have more cubes id stroke a 360 to lil over 400.

Swap kit already exists...

weld up the mount plate and drop er in :bounce2:

Id be apt to stay carbed, wouldn't want to deal with any electronics...unless you are hell bent on FI which case id go for a later magnum motor.

yea, im not a fan of the magnum series either, but chevy??

Im not a fan. Id be looking towards a hemi. Like 6.1 liters of hemi :driver:

5.7s wouldnt be hard at all though. just sayin

but that chevy swap in the vid is pretty damn sweet

what tranny/tcase would you run? since most chevy drivetrain has a pass drop front axle...you planning on swapping it all?
and i like the vortec swap, you cant really beat it for the $$, still dont like chebby though :flipoff2:

hmm
cant fault that set up. shouldnt be terribly hard to find.
cant wait to see the build :driver:

You won't keep it that long......why not sell off all the randomness you have and get a CTD or PSD to DD and tow with. Towing with the waggy is going to bring the suck.
Are you really wanting to haul the HUGE xj with a wagoneer? I'd rather tow the waggy with the HUGE xj

Huge like v8 and tons? and a frame? Like to see an xj tow my rig :flipoff2:

BUT, when my shit was more stock i never liked towing with it, a few guys run bags out back and stiffer springs and didnt complain when towing another FSJ.

but my Ram 3500 12v will drag 3 wags up a mountain and i found it for 5k. sooo, guess it just depends on what youre really trying to accomplish here.

Utility, or satisfaction of having your rig drug by a jeep

his rig would be 10X the size of the tow rig....He would have to put the fsj on Rocks and have drums and pinions brakes....then brakes on both axles of the tralier to stop that thing.

haha, thats some XJ!!

id believe that when i saw it.

:edit:
That is a fawking huge XJ.

wow.

Jeff, i have a nicely built 99 PSD that hauls the heavy loads aka the xj or heavy loaded trailers/trucks

Im looking to build the wagon to DD when i want and use to haul a few cars a month on a 16ft dove. nothing very heavy.

As for towing the Xj its not that god awfull over weight haha..My buddies diesel was down last week so i loaned him mine to tow his chevy and i used a stock 07 LTZ 5.3 tahoe, hauling the xj on a 16ft dove with no brakes...Stoped fine and had no problems...Not saying i want to do it all the time though:flipoff2:
