I'm installing a fuel cell so that I can stretch my wheelbase. I got the RCI-2161A. The instructions mention " Use the grounding wire provided", but there isn't one. Am I correct to presume that the fuel cell would need to be grounded to the frame (tub is 'glass)? Also would there be any benefit to putting polyurethane bushings under the mounting tabs to absorb a little bit of shock? This is my first fuel cell, so sorry if I'm a bit uneducated.

For your sender to work, it needs to be grounded. There should be somehting right on the sender cap for you to attach the wire to.

Never a bad idea to ground the cell anyway, static and all..

as a note...I dropped the factory TJ pump/filter/sending unit in mine...so we're not exactly talking apples-to-apples...

Thanks for the replys. Another question that has been brought up lately is foam. According to an article on offroad web, "Foam baffles fuel sloshing and can prevent an explosion due to violent movement." Anybody running without foam? Can you add foam inserts to an aluminum tank?

Mine is ungrounded, but it does sound like a good idea. I used springs on top of the mounting tabs instead of bushings under. That way the bottom of the fuel cell sits flat against the body of the jeep, i did put a sheet of rubber under it to protect against abrasion. My factory tank did not have foam in it and I never had any problems, so no foam for me.

You can certainly add foam, but foam doesn't last forever.

That's kind of what I was thinking. I'd hate to have it come apart and clog everything up. I guess I'll run it without if there's no imminent danger of exploding.

I've never personally run foam--but because of the fact that all I've ever heard and read about foam in offroad rigs clogging up the entire fuel system.
Though, it's supposed to be replaced periodically so I'm sure that might have something to do with it as well...

I just put baffles in my cells.
