fuel cell vent

I just got an RCI-2161 cell for my Heep and am needing ideas on the vent. I was thinking about an AN-barb adapter with an el-cheapo breather filter right on top of the tank since I do not have a top to trap any fumes.
How have you guys routed your vents?????

The cell came with the rollover valve already installed. I am more curious about the location of the actual vent, should it be higher than the tank, can I run a hose down through the floor and put it under the rear wheelwell? Things like that.

You will still need a vent to keep crud out... The rollover valve just has a ball inside that closes off the outlet when upside down.. BUT when right side up stuff can easily go in..

Michael it sounds like your talking about one that is both RO and Vent in one ?

Also ive seen them where when your on the side and say 1/2 full the valve will sorta float with the gas sloshing inside and it can still dribble out some..

Same as what you are talking about. Yes, it has an opening that would let crud in, and would also allow fuel to slosh out if sideways. I have a small air filter (quick fix when I did it) on top of mine to keep crud from getting in, and the vent is high enough above the fuel level (it is in the filler cap) that none has sloshed out (that I know of) yet.

With the rollover valve, just run some hose up to a higher point on your vehicle, with some sort of breather/filter on the end of the hose to keep junk out.

OK, I started installing the cell today, and being the mechanical genius that I am, i cross threaded a fitting and damaged the threads on the fuel cell. How can I get them repaired?? Can they even be repaired??
:stupid:

if you just damaged the rollover vent threads who cares... jb weld a barb fitting on it!

Oh yeah, its on the pickup line. I hate aluminum.

vent

can I run the rollover vent from the rci 2161 to the stock yj evap hoses or whatever those small hoses are coming out of the top of the stock tank?

Find an appropriate tap, and just tap it for next size up fitting. Then just get a reducer fitting if you really need one. Or there may even be a fitting with a larger thread size on one half, and the same size as the original fitting on the other. There are so many fittings and combinations you'll really just have to sit down and figure out how you want to do it.

don't see any reason why not... the cell's vent functions just like your oem tank's vent did...

FYI

The roll-over-valve that came in my summit tank sucked. When i hit a bump, the valve would get stuck up when the fuel moved around, and the tank built pressure....

I use a "manual" roll-over valve. Cost $3 at lowes. It is a copper 90* shutoff valve i use when i roll over. If you have seen my truck, you know i have used it. Works great. I have the 90* valve with two barb fitting in either end so that the 6an line will slide on. Just mount it in a easy to reach place.

You still need some type of filter on the end. The most common is probably the $15-20 mini K&N style you can get out of the ricer section at autozone.

I got my roll over valve from jegs.

And a mini air filter from Pep Boys.

I am going to use the rollover fitting to run vapors back to the evap can and rig the new tank up to run the stock filler with vented cap, should be just like stock.
