Fuel line facts or fictions

I’m looking for some fuel line that will handle diesel fuel. The World Wide Web is filled with people saying regular fuel line will work... and then they say it had to be diesel specific... any ideas. I’d like to have it in clear or some color that I can make sure I have fuel going thru it.

Standard 30r7 rated fuel hose will work with diesel per Gates. But not biodiesel. For biodiesel you want a 30r9 rated hose but it's more expensive. Also most standard pump diesel is up to 10 percent bio now so you may just want to go with the 30r9 hose anyway.

But none of those are clear. If you can find a clear or opaque Teflon or ptfe hose that should work as they are resistant to pretty much everything.

.....and while I was typing the exact same kind of stuff. :D

Because of the biodiesel compatibility, I wouldn't bother with anything but SAE 30R9 hose. If you need in-tank hose that isn't going to see heat or UV light, 30R10 is what you want.

FYI, 30R7 is low pressure hose, and 30R9 is high pressure rated.

SAE 30R14T2 (30R14 Type2) would also work and is compat with biodiesel.

Confusingly, there are some dual rated 30R7/30R14T2 hoses from Parker (Parker 389 for B20, Parker 397 for B100) that is perfectly fine with biodiesel, which normal 30R7 isn't... I just saw that while poking around for 30R14 ratings.

"Regular fuel line" doesn't really exist, because there's multiple types that are all compatible with gasoline. That's kind of the problem with people saying to use "regular fuel line", because one person's regular fuel line is possibly different than what someone else bought. If one person used generic carb'd SAE 30R6, one person uses 30R7, etc., they may all have different results with diesel. You can also buy fuel hose that doesn't have an SAE number printed on it, and who knows what specs that actually has.

The takeaway here: SAE specs are there for a reason, and don't buy any hose that you can't verify with a SAE spec number printed on it. If the hose doesn't have an SAE number on it, you should not buy it for a fuel system because you have no clue what it actually is.
