I have a couple old low-pressure fuel pumps (like in pic) laying around collecting dust. I am wondering if these pumps could be used to pump water. I am thinking maybe a camp shower. The pressure is low (7-10 lbs), but the volume/flow is pretty decent. Any ideas?

It should be able to pump it but how long it will is the question. I'd just give it a shot and see how it works

They wont last long.
Fuel ( as a dino product) provides its own lubrication. Water not so much.

They will work but for extended intervals you will smoke em

Ole Donald may have just found a better idea. I Googled homemade camp showers. Someone/somewhere said he had made one using a 12v bilge pump, and it worked great. It would pump water to a height of 12 ft with decent flow. The idea is so simple I had to trip over it to find it. I think I will let the fuel pumps keep on collecting dust and go shopping for a small bilge pump ($15-$20). Thanks for the answers Guys!

Like Ron stated, that style of pump, the fuel flows through all of the workings of the pump motor. Fuel is designed to lubricate and cool it. Water will cool it, but not lubricate it. There will also be electrical current flowing through the water inside, which will cause galvanic corrosion of the pump, and especially the motor brushes.

Ive used a bilge pump before...if you have enough source of water look at the slightly bigger ~$40... you can fit it with a short hose and shower head and get better water pressure than i have at home

DON, you did all that, before I could get a word in! I was going to suggest the bilge pump! Friend of mine, is a camper/fisherman, among many things! He was showing me his set-up, when we thought we might have the ice storm. [worried about power] He heats part of his small house with a wood stove, so he has a 5 gallon pot, he can heat on the wood stove, & thermometer, for H2O temp. he can transfer the pot, to his regular bathroom tub/shower, insert PVC pipe>bilge pump on 1 end, shower head on the other end, AND, of course his 12V Boat battery. He says he practicing Navy showers, for when he goes Camping! He's Quite a Character!

For anyone who may be interested.... I received this gadget today, and I am impressed! I hooked it up to a battery and ran a couple gallons of water through it. It works well, and for something that is all plastic it seems to be of good quality. A rare find these days. :)
