Since I know everyone LOVES "what should I build" threads, I figured I would give you another.

I like full size trucks and am considering getting a ford or chevy one ton. I am not familiar enough with them to know the major pros and cons of each.

I have searched and read many threads, but most deal with one or the other; and most are in reference to SAS swaps.

Help a brotha out?

What year/price range? What do you plan to do with it?

If you don't care about the ford/chevy name, then I'd just stick with a mid 80s Chevy 1 ton.

What you get:
D60 front
14 bolt rear
good auto trans
good motor options
plenty of aftermarket support
CUCVs are all over the place

Ford does have a comparable option, though.

Oh ya, no particular year, and budget is cheap, like 2k. I plan on light offroad, nothing crazy but want to have fun, and be able to upgrade the truck as I go along. I want a pickup for some utility, and an extra cab if possible.

I figured starting with the one ton axles would get a bit ahead as far as running gear goes.

i have a ford 250,built...if i had to do it again it would be a late 70's ford or mid 80's chevy....chevy is a lot cheaper to build IMO.i have a 97 over 8600 gvw f250...kinda the bastard child of 3/4 tons...a HP 60 is more $$$$$ than a p/s chebby....or theres a 01 nissan frontier truggy for 2500 that looks capable enough
