Just so everyone knows, on jeeps and all chrysler products the automatic transmission fluid level is checked with the "engine IDLING in neutral"

In case someone wasnt educated to the point of knowing that they actually write it on the dipstick.

So when you pick up your new jeep conversion with a brand new transmission from the shop and then check the fluid level incorrectly and add 2 extra quarts of fluid you pretty much void your warranty. Those 2 extra quarts in a 45rfe transmission wreak havoc on the solenoid pack and pressure sensors leading to complete transmission failure.

Sounds like someone complained...

i've always done it in neutral too, but i just worked on a 04 TJ and the dipstick said check in park...never seen it say that before.

Another interesting point there Brendan,

I am still amazed how you managed to install a front axle shaft, reconnect all the front end (brakes, tires, etc), then drive 60-70 miles within only 1 hour.

You certainly are a much faster driver, and better mechanic than I thought.

The strange thing is how you drove such a long distance with no trouble from the transmission. I only drove 12.3 miles before it dropped back into Limp Mode. I certainly wasnt driving anywhere close to the high speed you must have been going either.

By the way, I had no trouble driving back to Jacksonville, the Jeep didnt run hot at ANY point from leaving Wilmington, to reaching Jacksonville.

On top of that, I am mildly concerned..... When you finished rebuilding the Hemi, it leaked fluid badly. It turned out to be the heads. What I dont understand is how you failed to check the heads in the beginning.
You said yourself that the motor sucked in water, and snapped the connecting rod because water doesnt compress. The connecting rod is STEEL, the heads are ALUMINUM. I learned in Junior High that steel is stronger than aluminum. Wouldnt it be kind of obvious that aluminum would break under pressure before steel would??? The heads probably should have been checked from the beginning.
Now, the reason I am mildly concerned..... In order for the motor to ingest water, water must be deep enough to go inside the air filter. Ok.. So, if the water gets that deep, who is to say there isn't going to be any water damage to the transmission??? Since my transmission problems are electrical, it leads me to believe that by rebuilding, or installing a shift kit, you would be unable to properly diagnose the water damage that may have occurred to the transmission.
No worries though, I am taking the Jeep to the professionals this week to find out for sure, what is wrong with the transmission. If I do in fact find out the damage was preexistent, and not caused by any extra fluid, then don't worry. I will certainly let you know.

Hmmmm... this is making a little more sense now.. My suspisions are correct. Ill hold onto this thread looks like it could be entertaining! Road Warrior, let us know what you find out

Wouldn't the actual manner in which each material were applied matter though?

Well, that got put on hold, I am gonna have to wait a week or two before I can do anything with the Jeep now. I am going to Alabama to visit my family before I go back to Iraq. Plus I have a lot of things to line up for while I am gone, Hopefully my next paycheck will have enough left over to get the Jeep looked over

hey i rember that the tranny you got came from a different order...it's not the same trany that was ran on your hemi...so not sure it could have water damage...i happend to be there when it came in...also getting work done
