It went for $5042.14 - is that anyone here?

Its cool, but Id say someone overpaid. I havent been around one, but just from watching the few episodes on gears, they looked like a real turd.

turd but again I'd own one. Three cylinder detroit and loud as fuck.Better have hearing protection with ya.Also, watch the flywheel that is between you and the pass. My dad worked at a factory in Charlotte that built these and they would take em out for test runs. What didn't sink in the test dips (amphibius) were concidered outstanding. He had a flywheel come loose and luckily the cover caught the brunt of the damage but it still allmost came out like a saw blade.

Having driven "several" during the early '80s, I always enjoyed them!
However, the novelty of:
  • gutless 3cyl. Detroit
  • 4wheel steer (front/rear)
  • being able to SOAK others with the bilge pump (fill up the engine bay at the wash rack, shoots a 1.5" *stream* out the driverside - just be sure to look for high-ranking Occifer flags on other vehicles before energizing, fawked myself up on that one!)
  • being able to "swim" it across anything it will drive into/out of (*except* when the tailgate seal is torn, which allows the cargo space to flood/fill, & subsequently sink it 10' to the bottom... helluva recovery there!)
will quickly wear off.
Supposedly a SBC is a direct drop-in and could be a blast, but the first "brake service" would kill you (physically & financially)
