Anyone had one?
Did you have it removed, go away on its own, have it aspirated, or smack it with a book?

Mine is on the back of my wrist and can only be seen if I bend my wrist forward and doesn't hurt, its just annoying. Thinking of making an app to have it drained. I know that having it drained could only be temporary and could come back years later or not at all. Been reading a bit up on them and seems having it drained is pretty straight forward. Just need to find out if my local Fast Med can do it.

Have one on my left wrist, doesn't hurt. Smacked it with a book, that did hurt...and it came back. Since it doesn't hurt and doesn't impede function, I have no interest in spending money for draining/removal.

how long did it go away for after you smacked it? I don't really want to spend money to get it drained, but its driving me nuts (just knowing that its there)

Less than a year...but it did come back smaller, and stayed the same size for probably the last 5 years.

Mine is probably the size of a lima bean right now. Been trying to do warm compresses to see if I can go blood flowing and naturally drain a bit. Just not sure how much it would cost to have it drained.

A friend had one on his wrist years ago that apparrently got to the nerve bundle and bone and he finally could'nt stand the pain and had it removed. It took a month or more for it to heal and stop hurting.

I have a bunch. One in my left forearm, one on my torso, and one on my leg. Dad has them as well. I've noticed that since I've cleaned up my diet and lost a bunch of weight they have greatly reduced in size to the point that I had forgot all about them before I saw this thread.

I've heard a well placed match will do wonders...

I've got a couple on both my wrists, the Navy doc I went to years ago about them said you can drain them or have them removed, but he said just man up and deal with them because 99% of the time they return...

I must not be much of a man then... I'd rather have it drained every couple of years than look at this chit. Heaves me out.

I had one in my right wrist in high school that restricted motion and hurt. It was drained, came back, and then removed. Still have a pretty cool scar.

Dude, if you have ins. And can afford it. Cut that shit out and move on. Dont play with your health.

this.
I had one on my wrist many years ago. Doc said the same thing, "Yeah, in the old days we'd just pop it w/ a book. But for a $50 copay it can be gone."
Got rid of that sucker and never looked back.

Fun semi-related story.
When I was in high school, a small lump appeared right in the middle of my chest, above my sternum. Looked like a BB under the skin. Doc said, "Eh, just a cyst, worry about it later if it grows."
Well 10 years later when I was in grad school, quite randomly over the course of a week it grew to the size of a large pimple. Went a saw a dermatologist, who said,"Eh, yeah, just a sebaceous cyst, we'll schedule to have it removed in a few weeks." Well, within a week it grew to the size of a freakin' grape. He worked me in for an emergency resection. Took a pretty massive incision, to get all of the sac out... looked like a flattened giant grape skin. I watched the removal w/ a mirror... just because.
Because it was so big by then, and in the middle of my chest where there's not a ton of meat, I now have a huge scar from where they could barely stretch the skin back over.
Occasionally people ask me about it, I just say "That's where I took the bullet."

Moral - cysts can grow. If you can afford it, get it taken care of. B/c it can suck later. No reason not to.

I have them and have had them for years.I had one come up on the back of my neck that never really bothered me.I also had one right at top of my shoulder that was causing problems.I had it removed along w the one on my neck.I was 45 when I had them removed and I had,had the one on my neck since I was 18.The one on my neck was about the size of a quarter under the skin. The doctor said it was so compacted that it spread to the size of a baseball when it was out of the skin.

I had one on my back that went away w hot compress/draining and another above my shoulder blade that lasted for years. It would swell and shrink and I actually got my girlfriend to squeeze it a few times.I decided if she would do that for me I had to marry her. I finally had to get it cut out when it swelled to about golfball size. A ganglion cyst is hella better than pilonidal cyst any day, don't ask me why I know o_O I thought it was weird that both doctors wanted to show me the cysts in a specimen jar after they removed them. I did not ask or want to see them, just have them gone. I now assume they wanted me to see them and make me think about to getting them treated sooner if I got another one.

My wife has them.
The first she actually fell on her wrist and it popped.
It came back a few years later but got so big she had it removed ..... impeding function.
Came back again and this time pain was a factor because of some scar tissue.

The problem with letting them go on the wrist is they can grow around tendons and ligaments ...... when it gets bad enough to remove,
they have to do a lot of digging around to get it all. She went through this a few months ago.

And ..... it may still come back.

Had one on my wrist come up pretty quick and hurt all the time. Got it removed, been at least 15 years ago and hasn't come back yet but if it does I'll get it removed again.

Just go remove it, so what if it comes back just have it done again. You cut your hair every week or two and it keeps coming back.

I've never had anything like this, really the first I've heard of it. Just find it odd after reading here they mainly come up on the wrists.

Ganglion cysts, by definition, are on joints. If it were on a different place, it would be a different kind of cyst ;-). They happen b/c of the way that your skin/fat layer is in that particular area, it can form a little pocket or paunch that fills with fluid.

I had it one time and it went away on it's own.Been several years ago.
That is also on the list I give when offering my services to couples having a hard time getting pregnant or needing a boost in the gene pool.

You have yours surgically removed or aspirated?

welp, got an appointment on the 24th to get it looked and drained/removed. Its annoying me beyond belief and ready for it to be gone.

To anyone who has had one removed/drained recently, was it just a normal doctor that did it or a specialist?
