Just bought a house, looking to build a garage for the race cars and my toys. Allowed 1000sqft

Thinking about 30 x 30 with a small compressor room/storage. 12' ceilings

Anyone here builders? Or know of a hook up to see what im looking at price wise?

If you're allowed 1000sqft, I'd build it 1000sqft. Are you in Gastonia proper, or outside of the city limits? I don't know if Gastonia has different (more) regulations. Gaston County building department/code enforcement is aggravating to deal with, but they have a lot of information on their website ( http://www.gastongov.com/departments/building-inspections ). Here's an important one:
  1. Q. Do I need a permit for a residential storage building?
A.Any building greater than 12’ in any dimension requires a building permit. If it is greater than 400 sq ft it requires a permanent foundation. All buildings used for commercial purposes require a building permit and a permanent foundation.
And if you're consider a pole building, here's what they allow without requiring engineered plans (480sqft) http://www.gastongov.com/department...for-detached-pole-buildings-and-carports-etc-

Price depends on too many factors. You could do a pole building that size for under $15k if you do most of the work yourself. You could easily spend $60k if you hire someone to build a garage to match your house. Tell us what you have in mind, and someone will probably have priced something similar and can help you out.

Heritage Buildings is a great place to deal with. I always talked to Shay Carpenter and he was a very helpful fellow.

figure about $30/foot depending on what you want in it. You can get it down a lot cheaper if you leave it bare bones and do the work yourself.

That's not too bad. I guess you had some insulation, maybe a sky light or two, door openings, man doors, etc?

Yea, went ahead and had 3" insulation, 2 10X10 doors, a large walk in door, and 1 window beside the walk in door. I am getting some quotes on concrete/grading stuff, and I got in touch with a local builder who is going to quote a turn key job

Should be getting my materials this week from Hansen. Got the pad cleared and compacted. Going to have the post holes drilled this week.
