It's time to put the garage door on the garage/apartment that I'm building, and I was wondering if anyone on here does that kind of work. Its a 16x7 standard door with an electric opener.

Also, its non-insulated, but I am going to insulate it somehow. Anyone else done this, and if so how did it turn out?

Any new pics of the place? I'm hoping to do this one day too.

Whatever you get - *be sure to put a handle on it*!
Last week our power went out. Started getting cold so the family vacated. Went to get Wife's car out of the garage - hum, no power. OK... so I disconnected it from the mechanism... went to go lift it... NO HANDLE ON EITHER SIDE. Much profanity!
I mean, seriously... Who the !@#$ puts in a nice big door (its even the nice fiberglass insulated style) w/o a $5 handle to lift it open??

/nothing else to add

Was it really that hard to raise it without a handle...?

PM sent to the OP.

I've got a build thread somewhere that I need to update. I'll try to update with some pics tonight.

The hard part was getting it started - nothing to hold on to. no leverage. Once it was up enough to reach under, no.

They're really easy to install. Takes a couple hours and hand tools. The hardest part will be opening the door the first time so you can attach the springs. But you can do 90% of the install, then invite some friends over to help you open it.

I bought a pre-insulated door that had panels inside and out, but it cost more that way.

You can buy an insulation kit for them.Theres a guy up here that sells the cheaper than anyone else I found. To bad your not closer. But you could prpbably buy the insulation kit from him and have it shipped.

Truck winch and pulleys?

I can't remember the last time I've seen a new door with those style springs. They all have torsion springs now which makes it even easier if you know what you're doing. I could install that door in under an hour.
