Any one here sell or install home garage doors? I want to replace my basement door, [7' height] with a new insulated door, & opener. I might have a problem with clearing a heater duct, but can work that out.
Present door has the long springs, that stretch. I've never experienced a problem with these, but have also seen doors with the windup spring, on a roller. That might be for double wide, heavy doors. I do want to use a belt drive. What's the opinions, & where to buy?
Now my upper garage, has no door, but needs one! It too is 7'height, but I want to,& can raise it to 8'. It's 14' wide, I Can't change that. Same basic questions & suggestions, for it too! Thanks

If you switch to the type with the torsion springs on the front wall and have the room to the side of the door, you can do a LiftMaster 3800 opener directly on the torsion bar and keep all your headroom above the door when it is closed.

I install industrial doors for a living, but I also do residential work on the side. The torsion springs IMO are much better than and extension spring setup. There are also low headroom options that will allow you to use a torsion spring with minimal clearance. I have been installing many of the 3800 series liftmaster operators lately. They are much quieter and smoother than a trolley operator. Also the 3800 comes with a mag lock that engages/disengages automatically which is pretty neat.

Look at DDM garage door high lift conversion, lots of good info for the do it your self person. I have done this conversion in my garage along with the lift master 3800 jack shaft and I love it!!!!!

It's really a no-brainier for me, I wouldn't run anything but the 3800 series liftmaster operators. Trust me, if you are used to loud jerky trolley operators you will be amazed by how quiet and smooth it is.
