Garage Lift Fail

WOW.
Scary is right. Haird to tell what happened - but 15 secs earlier, dude as under it.

Lift doesn't seem to fail, but it looks like whatever point he lifted it by gave way... Very hard to tell, just a guess.

HOLY :poop:! ive seen this happen in person, and if you dont balance the truck right on the correct spots it gets off balance easy. glad he moved.

Center post lifts rarely have locking arms, if the load is off balance and shifts, the arms can ( and DO !! ) swing toward center.

LOOK REAL CLOSE just under passenger rear door, watch between the step bar and body, you will see the chunk of wood come shooting out. DUMB ASS !!

I despise center post lifts !! In ground single and dual post lifts are scary as fawk to use, especially if they aren't maintained properly, an air bubble in the hydraulics will cause them to leap or drop, have seen vehicles get tossed off lifts before.

using ANY sort of cribbing or blocking not SPECIFICALLY designed for the lift is asking for death.

Hit the nail on the head, center post lifts suck bad enough without using improper methods to support the truck on said p.o.s. lift. I've seen trucks shift and fall off of nice above ground lifts, and even a 69 camaro flop backwards off of a pad lift. (no drivetrain and wasn't properly balanced on the pad) The most dangerous thing an a shop is the person workingin it, with the lift being a close second. It all boils down to what mom used to tell us as kids, "Don't be a dumbass"

i dunno..rolling the truck on its side like that might make it easier to do exhaust work on.

^^ works well for welding a skidpan on a van

I dunno...am I the only one that thinks that could be a set up insurance fraud deal?

- He points the 2nd guy who walks in to the other side
- He is seemingl working on something on on side and just sets it down and gos to the other side.
- The second he gets to the other side the vehicle instantly falls

I think that shit was set up yo.

i dont think that was a block on the lift that fell. i think its part of an awkard turn he is making in the exhaust. you can see he is on the ground working on what appears to bent pipe, as if he is reaming the opening out.

he seems to be all the way in the other room when the truck starts to slide.

haha...it def wasnt a scam...look at the guy in the last few frames....throws his hands on his head in one of those classic "What the fucking fuck!" moments.

listening to you guys, I didn't realize it was so common for vehicles to fall off of lifts. Apparently even more common with crappy center post lifts. Your testaments alone lead me to believe this falls in the "shit happens" category????

i refused a job due to old style in ground lifts! and i witnessed atleast 5 fall at my last dealer job and most of those were 2 post lifts with worn out sagging arms. all of them could have been prevented!

Lifts are great but I still have a hard time trusting any lift with less than four posts with an 8,000 lb truck on it. I prefer to work on heavy duty trucks on the ground. It seems a little too convenient that it happened to fall after he got out from under it but who knows, maybe it was a setup, maybe it wasn't.

Maybe as he got out from under it he gave it a slight bump, causing the wood to come loose, and the entire catastrophe.

hard to say if it was lift fail or improper placement on lift, but after watching it a 3rd time i seen thats its a 2500 and by the looks of the exhaust he was dealing with it is def a diesel, which makes me think they had too much weight on the lift to begin with.
id like to see how they got the truck out of there! i mean there is no way to remove it withought doing even more damage to the truck and the shop.

I've never seen a vehicle fall off a lift before, but I've damn sure had nightmares about it. The next day, I check each vehicle closely before lifting! I've never been a fan of single post lifts, a double post in ground is OK so long as it's maintained. Seen a 7 series BMW jump about 4 inches off one when it got an air bubble. Scared the absolute shit outta me and I was just working next to it! (Not the operator.)
