my organizational skill drive my dad nuts. i have tons of parts, hunting clothes, tools, a four wheeler, a go cart, etc cluttering up my dads barn. he had it built 5 or 6 years ago and i have more stuff in it than he does. every time i go home, he is on my case wanting me to clean my junk up and get rid of some stuff. sooooo, i started stashing stuff in one of our lesser used warehouses at work. he found that pile too

Shelves and cabinets are key. Pallets and a forklift or pallet jack are also nice if you have the space and equipment. Tag things that you might forget what they are, so that you don't have to remember. I've got about 20 ring and pinions on a shelf. I used to keep them laying around in different places so I would remember which was which, but now I see how silly that was.

I have a 30 x 30 shop. Friends know I can make or fix just about anything. Last fall I cleaned out the stuff and hauled over 6,300 pounds of steel out! I could not beleive it myself. I found something in my shop I haven't thought much about in 16 years......................the floor!

The best thing I have in my shop is my workbench setup. Everybody else may hate it, but I think it is the shit. I built a 4'x6' cabinet on casters that is waist high. Flat working surface with polyurethane on the top. I built my workbench just tall enough that I can roll the cabinet/table under it when not in use. When I need it, I can double my work surface. Ill get a picture tonight.

At my last house, I built a shelf on the wall above the garage door. It was like 4' deep. that was just wasted space before. Now it was used for big items I use maybe 2 times a year. opened up a lot of space.

I'd suggest installing lots of shelves. The wire shelving is cheap and easy to install.

I installed a pulley and rope system for my kayaks so they hang from the ceiling above the garage door.

I've found the ceiling is greatly underutilized. So, I just find ways to hang most of my odd items from the ceiling being sure not to block the light.
