I have a 2000 Wrangler tj 4.0 that is currently stock with 30 9.50 R15s. I'm wanting to do maybe a 3.5 budget boost on it with 33 12.50s but was wondering what impact that would have on my MPGs. While on the subject what can I do to help raise MPGs? Obviously keeping foot out of the floorboard and tires aired up. I am thinking about getting a cold air intake. Any other suggestions

MPG=/=Modified Wrangler
When mine was stock with 215/75 street tires and 3.07 gears, it got in the upper teens~20mpg range regularly. I saw as high as 23mpg on a tank one time. After 32's and up, I would expect 12-15mpg. Once I did the stroker, it got 14mpg.
Buy a Honda civic, only way to make your mileage go up.
There are a lot of other ways too, and they don't require you to drive the same car as everyone elses little sister :lol:

Buy a 2-3k$ civic and DD it and let the jeep wheel to its heart's desire.

My problem is I'm still a newbie so I want to drive jeep all the time....on and off road. I guess you gotta pay to play

good mpg's and Jeep mix as well as oil and water. Once you start with lift and tires it goes from bad to worse. You hit the nail on the head when you siad you have to pay to play....or at least look cool.

damn jj 10 mpg in city?!? the first thing you should do is a good tune up. i personally use ngk spark plugs and use 5-30 full synthetic and lucas oil stabilizer.change all your fluids, be sure your alignment is good and your tires are properly inflated and balanced. with my yj and no top i get 14 mpg.. thats with 10 inches of lift and35s. with the hard top on i got 18. its all in what you have. something you could also do to help with gas mileage is upgrade your coil packs to a higher output coil. run lucas fuel injector cleaner and be light on the right foot. thats all you can really do since u have the powertec 4.0 in there.

Get a Toyota. 33s, 5.29 gears, dual cases, locked f/r and I still get around 20ish. Bout to go to 35s though.

I have a 2000 with a 4.0 and 3 speed auto and aftermarket front and rear bumpers, rockrails,and metal cloak front and rear fenders, and 2.5 inch lift and 33s and stock gears and i get 12 mpg you gotta pay to play.

no rubbing issues the rear you should be good to go the front you might rub a little not sure on what fenders you have, but i have metal cloak high line fenders so the fenders are way up and out of the way when flexing.

I can cruise country roads and get about 16mpg but when I get on the highway it's sucks it down to 11-12. That's with the four banger 2.5, 4" lift and 33s with 4:88 gears, tacking 3k. My tires are some cheapos that are real heavy, I could probably do a little better cruising with some better quality tires that weigh a bit less.

On the trail it's more like gallons per hour lol. My beater car gets about 35mpg. Having a gas saving DD is the only way to go, gas ain't never gonna get no cheaper!

Install one of my bored out throttle bodies. It will be good for 1 or 2 mpg if you drive conservatively....but most guys romp on it when they find out it gives more power.

I have nothing but respect for Jeeps. I owned a 1999 XJ Cherokee, 4x4, I6 4.0 and 5-Speed manual, put 65K in 5 years on the truck, loved that truck, never really took it off roading, it was my DD at the time. I ended up selling it because I was only getting 15 ~ 16mpg stock with it, I had no modification on the truck. It was a tank, but it was also a tank. At the time it was getting to the point where I couldn't afford fill ups. I've since moved and have a much better job so that isn't really an issue anymore. I have a DD which is a 1985 2m4 Fiero which I get about 30 ~ 33 in, cost my $20 a week to drive it. I now have a 1998 Blazer with a 4.3L 5-speed manual 4x4 which was my DD for a while after I moved, strange thing is, bigger motor, not by much, but I'm constantly getting 18.5 ~ 20mpg in my 98 Blazer vs my 99 Cherokee and both are stock . . . go figure :confused:

Tire pressure is the main thing I had 35's with 4.88 gear and recently went to 37's running 26# front and 24# rear I can get about ~12 on highway. Recently rode to Asheville from Wilmington and filled up 3 times 90.00 one way approx 9 gal each stop at each fill. Running 18/15# front to rear for the beach I get less than 10 per gallon. Air up for DD or road trips. When I make URE trips at 65 I can get there on half tank (8gal) 170 miles one way
