How do you accomplish the break in for a new set of gears on a dedicated trail rig?

I'd just take it through some medium trails and try to put some heat cycle through them. There's probably no way your going to be able to do 500 miles so after a few cycles I'd dump the gear oil and change it then proceed as normal.

Jackstands, set throttle, drink beer, watch wheels go 'round and round for 30 minutes. Let cool, repeat once more. Wheel it.

Jody! I had that in my mind and didn't know if it needed to be under a load. That is good news!!! I know myself and it will be VERY hard to not go flog that turd with gears.
With any luck I may be giving you a ring with some 5.29s to install soon.
