So trying to figure out the gearing of my d35 so I can get my 8.8 geared tomorrow. I know you can traditionally pick the tire up and spin it 2x and watch the ds for turns. Well I pick the rear dside tire up and spin it. 4.5 turns on the ds for 1 spin of the tire. Isn't is supposed to be 2 full tire rotations? Sorry just feel like I'm losing my mind. I'm about 85% sure its 4.56 gears but I bought the jeep like it is so just wanna make sure before I put gears in the new axle and then have to cry.

I know you prolly dont wanna pull the cover and refill it if your changin your axle but i would say that on the side of the ring gear there should be a set of numbers like 41-10 for example. If you divide those 2 numbers that should give you the gear ratio.

Ex 41/10=4.10 gear ratio. Pull your cover and roll the ring gear around till ya see numbers and do the math.

Do it right, buy the $10 worth of gear oil and pop the cover to find out the gear ratio. Hell, if your really cheap, just refill the diff with the old fluid. I wouldn't half ass this part, especially if you're buying new gears for the 8.8 and need them to match the current ratio.

naw wasn't trying to half ass it. Was just exhausted last night and spent 3/4 of my weekend under my turd. Curiousity more than anything. Evidently it is one turn which makes more sense just read a site where it said 2 so my head was spinning. Hell I don't even have to spend the $ to fill it back up since its coming out in a few days anyways
