just want some quick thoughts on great gear ratio for 33's and 35's on a trail/street rig... was thinking 410 for 33s and 456 for 35s but want opinions.
thanks

thanks john. looking at putting the jeep on the trails again soon. thinking about gears but didnt want to go 488s with the current 33s and dont need tires yet.

thats what i was thinking. hadnt planned on doing 410s just because of wanting to move up. my main thought was more so 456s or 488s but not wanting to run overly high rpms on the highway. thinking 35s to 37s next time tires are needed

4.56 & 33 work real good
4.88 & 35 do real great

i would do 4.88 with 33 (that is what i have ) so when you move up in tires you will not be wishing you when with 4.88 just my 2 cents

i run 4.56 with 35's on my yj and no complaints here. i get 17mpg average, can tow anything i want... works fine for me i love it. there really isnt much difference between 4.56 and 4.88 realisticaly.. you wont tell that much of a difference. just do what i did and spend a little on the I6 getting it to breath right. i have a 03 intake manifold, tj downpipe, and dynomax exhaust kit. with 214k miles on it she spins the tires stood still.

Sounds like in your situation, I would go with 4.56 for what you want. Honestly, if it were my rig, though, I would go with 4.88 because i know i would have 36s or 37s sooner than later.....

I run 4.88's with 35's and on the trail it is awesome. I can put it in first gear it will idle over just about any obstacle out there. If I was to do it again I would put 4.88's in every time.

I would think 4.88's would be too low for 35's if you drive it 75-80mph on the highway for any sustained amount of time. That motor would be turning up pretty good. I'm guessing 500 rpm's higher than stock.

I have to agree at 80 I am running about 2800-2900 RPM however last time I checked the speed limit is 65-70 on the interstates. Also if you want to run 80 buy a car because a TJ with 5-6 inches of lift and 35's is not the best vehicle to do it in. I run 65-70 all the time with mine and it does fine.
