I'm building a K5 Jimmy and plan on running a d60hd in the rear and a d44hd up front. The truck will have aprrox. 12" of lift and will roll on 38's. I was wondering if I could go with a lower gear ratio than 4.56 without worrying about the pinion gettin too small in the 44. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I don't think i would go any lower gear wise, but I would go lower lift wise.

4.56s, and about a foot shorter.

Well I already have the springs and parts for the lift/suspension so its def. gonna have 12" of lift. Would 4.88s or even 5.13s be too much gear for the d44? Thanks for the help.

Can I put in a vote for 4.88s? The pinion head of a D44 4.88 is close to the same as a D35 4.10 and with a bigger ring gear. The pinion is not too small. The 5.13s do look small to me. Every time I gear I wish it was deeper on the trail so I vote for 4.88s I compared my 4.88 D44 gear to others I had laying around.

4.88s at a minimum. I'm gonna be running 4.88s with 35s, so later I can run 37s if I choose to. I wouldnt advise going any lower. You'll lose a lot of torque you're gonna want with those big tires.

Thanks for the advice everyone.
