need a new battery. Like te hdurabilities of the gel-cells.
NAPA has stopped carrying Excide, including the Orbital. not sure why but this makes me wonder.
I know tehre have been alot of prblems w/ the Optimas of late.

What other options are there?

Odyssey. And I think Sams Club had one maybe?

I got a Optima Yellow top a few months ago out the door for $160. Nothing but good things to say about it so far. Havent had one problem out of it. Time will tell though.

I have run Optimas since they were first sold and still do. Sam's is a pretty good place.

the Sears rebadged oddessy battery I posted is on sale this week for $142. It has more cranking amps by almost double of the optima and a 4 year replacement warranty. I know a lot of people running them in their jeep. I also have seen a bunch of people have problems with optimas in the last year or two.

Been doing a little checking as well (I've ran optimas w/ good luck in the past)...

red top 34/78: $129
yellow top d34/78: $165

like foxracin said, advance auto, buy online and pick up in store, but use code LC123 instead on BIG50.

Cool! I'll go get one tomorrow.Wish I'd seen thsi post earlier, woudl have gotten it today.

Are the Odyssey/Diehard Platinum batteries gel cells?
Nothing on Sear's website mentions it being different from a typical lead-acid battery.

I'm running the O'rielly's AGM battery and ove it. IIRC they have a 2 year replacement, that may be a hook up..... I used it in my TJ and winched alot and it sat for 6 months and now is in my Explorer.

Well today on Sears' website, the Diehard Platnumi is not only on sale, but got anotehr 10% off for ordering online and picking up locally... $136 w/ tax! W/ an 8 year warranty - can't beat that.

Just got it - holy CRAP thsi thing is heavy (54 lbs? Seriously?).
All those CCAs must really add on the weight, lol.

FYI the DieHard Platinum P-4 is the same, size 34/78, but has BOTH top and side terminals... perfect for connecting winch wires...

Be sure to run the winch off the top posts, not the side post. I have seen 2 different batteries melt the side post terms out....

x2, I never seen it in person, but seen it written on the internet a gazillion times, so it must be true. Supposedly the side terminals are internally connected to the top terminals with a thin strip of conductor. The real beef is between the top terminals directly to the guts of the battery. Side terminals are fine for small bursts, such as a starter, but no good with a long hard winch draw.

Well, good to know. I've never heard that, nor had a problem with it.
But since I have to re-make my holder anyway , this would be the time to swap around.

damn that is one hell of a deal

Interstate batteries now sells a gell cell battery also but not sure of price. Allways have ran interstates in my vehicles and when ever mine finally dies, have had acid type battery for 5 years now, im going with one of there new gell cell batteries!

If you know any service shops owners, etc the optimas are $114 at Advance auto if you have a shop account. I have never had them check, walk in say your picking it up for #### give them there phone number and your on your way. I have always done it with permission, but have never been questioned. I picked up a standard battery last week, but saw the optima pricing on the screen.

Just went to the site and no sale or 10% off. $189 +tax, guess I missed out:(

I bought a red top in December of 06 at URE when my other Red top was damaged. It died this summer. I doubt I'll buy another one. Looking into the Sears P4 as a replacement.
