General Contractors in W/S area?

I am looking for a reccomendation for a General Contractor to build an addition & garage on my home in Winston Salem. Has anyone here had any good experiences/reccomendations with a particular company/individual you wouldn't mind sharing? I appreciate any guideance anyone is willing to give before I start thumbing the Yellow Pages.
I have secured my funds and do have a preset budget, in your experience are most quotes in the construction industry written or verbal?

I know several great general contractors that i sub-contract flooring work through. Most are from Mocksville/w-s/clemmons and surrounding areas. I will gather some names and numbers for ya, if you want.
