I'm looking at buying a 78 chevy pickup with a 350 in it. I know it's lifted and on 39's, axles geared to 4.56. I'm not sure about axles, but I believe it's got a 12bolt rear with a locker and possibly the 44 up front; i'm pretty sure they are 6 lugs. I don't know much about chevys, so what should I look out for. The only mechanical issue I know of is that it leaks tranny fluid out from the seal between the transfer case and transmission. What are some problem areas I should look out for?

I will use the truck mostly in the mud, sometimes on the beach in the sand. Won't see any rocks

So who's had experience with chevy trucks like this? Good or bad?

look for frame cracks around the steering box.
x2 on the good all around trucks with cheap and easy to find parts
-also, speaking from experience, if you drive hard you are going to hurt that 12 bolt and 44 with 39 inch tires. The swap to 1 ton is pretty cheap and easy though if necessary

Rust or fixes in rockers, front right fender under battery box bad to rust. As said the frame around where the steering box mounts. Dashes are usually in bad shape.
