Generator Power Cord

10 years with "cord-o-death" at 2 different houses... kill the main, close the 50A breaker to backfeed the panel ("manual transfer switch"), plug 50A welder plug side into house, plug into genset and flip genset breaker = nothing is live to cause an issue with male-male cordset

And it continues… plug on gennie is a 20a. Best option I can find is a 30a wall socket and cord then an adapter to from 30a cord plug to 20a gennie plug.

From reading, it looks like your only options for wall plugs are 30 & 50 amp. So WHY TF would you make a gennie with a 20a out? It might be ok of the plugs matched, but they are different! FFS… another case of free being a PITA.

Would this not work?

20amp plug

Like you, I was given a free Dayton 5k with a honda 9hp motor. Mine has the voltage switch to go from 120 to 120/220. It has a 20amp plug outlet on both sides of the switch. Runs great. Hate extension cords everywhere.

50amp breaker service is already installed for my welder in the garage so...

That would work on the gennie side, but the wall is 30a. I could build a cord for certain with that plug and a 30a female of the same style.

Looks like you've got until Wednesday to get something worked out!
